The Sloan Family of Princeville

The Sloan Family, written by S.S. Slane in 1906, recounts the story of Jerome Sloan and his family, who left New York in 1837 and settled in Princeville, Illinois. The family consisted of the mother, five sons, and one daughter, and they faced hardships and privations during their pioneer life. Jerome Sloan married Charlotte Barnes in 1860, and together they had eleven children. Despite never being associated with any religious community, Mr. Sloan held strong beliefs of his own. At the time of the writing, he was 93 years old and in excellent health.

Daniel Prince

Daniel Prince lived a solitary life among the wild men of the forest until he married in 1833 and started a family. Elisha D. Crisman was born July 28, 1824, in Berkeley County, Virginia.[1]Berkley County was a part of Virginia until West Virginia separated itself in 1863. His father, George P. Crisman, was born in 1796, in Virginia, which State he left on account of his opposition to slavery, and removed to Ohio, and from there to Knox County, Illinois, where he died in 1872. Thomas R. Capperrune, Milo, was born August 11, 1816, in Kent County, Delaware. His parents, William and Rebecca (Row) Capperrune, were natives of Delaware. The former was a farmer by occupation, and died there in 1839. The latter died there also in 1817. She was the mother of seven children; of these only three are yet living. The grandfather of our subject was of Irish descent, and a teacher by profession. Our subject is principally self educated.
